Dear Friends of Mariners Athletics,
Maine Maritime Academy has a rich tradition of excellence and achievement. Unfortunately, the keeping of records at MMA has not always maintained the record-setting pace of our outstanding Mariner athletes. The records available on Maine Maritime Academy’s web site, MarinerSports.org, represents the most complete and accurate information available to the Sports Information Office.
When I arrived in Castine late in the summer of 2011, I quickly identified this area as one in need of immediate attention and embarked on the rebuilding of our record books making use of the same statistical software we use for scoring games in nearly all of our sports.
I strongly encourage you to click your way through the records of your sport or sports. You will see that we have tremendous depth and a far more inclusive set of records than in years’ prior. Still, there are holes in our records.
I have gone through this process at my previous stops. This was the case at those institutions as well. What I found in both instances was that the alumni of the respective programs often had great information the schools were missing. I am certain this will be the case with Maine Maritime Academy’s alumni as well.
With that in mind, I hope you will raid your attics, garages and basements for the memories and history that you were a part of at Maine Maritime Academy, and will help us fill in the holes in our records. Please feel free to send information via U.S. Mail or email. A digital photo, photocopy or original of a year-end stat sheet, All-America certificate, or other piece of information places one more tile in the mosaic of Maine Maritime Academy’s athletic tradition.
Many thanks to Sam Goda '12, whose dedication to Mariners Athletics has been instrumental in getting this project moving forward!
