Mariner Report: Week of September 25, 2017

Men’s Cross Country 

Zachary Kinsman (Lebanon, N.H.) picked up his second collegiate victory at last Saturday's Mariner Invitational to lead the Mariners to the team victory. The Mariners return to action on Saturday at the Bowdoin College Invitational.

Last season, Spencer Boonstra led the Mariners to a sixth place finish at the Bowdoin Invitational.

Women’s Cross Country

Sierra James (Campton, N.H.) picked up her first collegiate victory at last Saturday's Mariner Invitational to lead the Mariners to the team victory. The Mariners return to action on Saturday at the Bowdoin College Invitational.

Last season, Alex Allen (Easton, Maine) led the Mariners to a sixth place finish at the Bowdoin Invitational. Allen placed 43rd overall out of 75 runners with a time of 27:51.9 on the 6k course.

Football

The Mariners fell to USMMA 56-31 in the NEWMAC opener for both teams. Maine Maritime returns to action on Saturday at WPI for another conference matchup. 

WPI holds a 2-0 all-time record over the Mariners, with the two prior meetings coming in 1952 and 1953.

Golf

Erich Klopfer (Palm Harbor, Fla.) led the Mariners to a fifth place finish at the two-day Husson Invitational over the weekend by finishing 12th overall. The Mariners travel to the University of New England Invitational on Tuesday. 

Last season, Klopfer posted a 75 (+6) at the UNE Invite, leading the Mariners in the six-team field.

Men’s Soccer

The Mariners went 0-1-1 this week in NAC action, first fighting to a draw with Thomas College on Tuesday and falling to New England College on Saturday 1-0. This week, the Mariners host Husson on Wednesday night before hosting Johnson and Lyndon over the weekend. 

Husson holds a 44-18-6 all-time record over the Mariners, including a 20-9-2 record when playing in Castine. Last season the Eagles took two games from the Mariners, first in the regular season (2-1) and again the NAC Quarterfinals (1-0).

The Mariners are 8-7-2 all-time against the Badgers, including a 5-3 record when hosting. The Mariners are 7-0-1 in the last eight meetings. Last season the Mariners picked up a 3-1 win, led by two goals from Matthew Caron (Scarborough, Maine) and Liam Welch (Temple, Maine). 

The Mariners are 10-6 all-time against the Hornets, including a 6-4 record when hosting. Maine Maritime has won the last five meetings including a 3-1 win last season in Vermont. Dalton Moore (Hollis Center, Maine), Caron and Ike Doiron (Wilton, Maine) tallied goals for the Mariners in the victory. 

Women’s Soccer

The Mariners went 1-2 this week, picking up their first conference win over Thomas on Tuesday night, but fell to New England College on Saturday and Wheaton on Sunday in a non-conference matchup. This week, the Mariners travel to NESCAC's Bowdoin College on Thursday, before hosting Johnson and Lyndon over the weekend.

The Mariners will take on the Polar Bears for the first-ever meeting.

The Mariners are 8-5-3 against the Badgers all-time, including back-to-back victories. When hosting, the Mariners are 3-3-2 all time. In last year’s 5-1 win in Vermont, Susana DeFrank (Temecula, Calif.) net two goals, while Makayla Lewis (Purcellville, Va.), Morgan Libby, and Emily Wyman (Brockton, Mass.) each added goals for the Mariners. 

The Mariners are 6-3-1 all-time against the Hornets, including a 2-3 record at home. In the last five meetings, the Mariners hold a 4-1 record, including a 6-0 victory last season. In last season’s win Morgan Libby, DeFrank, Eryn Doiron (Wilton, Maine) and Makayla Lewis (Purcellville, Va.) net goals for the Mariners.

Volleyball

The Mariners went 3-1 last week, picking up wins over Unity, St. Joseph (Conn.) and Mt. St. Mary. This week, the Mariners host Bates College on Tuesday night before traveling to Johnson to open up NAC play against the Badgers and Lyndon on Saturday.

The Mariners are 4-8 all-time against Bates, including a 1-5 record when hosting. The Mariners went 1-1 last season against Bates, including a 3-2 win in Waterville in September. 

The Mariners are 11-0 all-time against Lyndon State, including a 3-0 victory over the Hornets in both meetings last season. 

The Mariners are 8-0 all-time against the Badgers, including a 3-0 victory last season.
