CASTINE, Maine -- After setting a new Maine Maritime Academy single-game record with three blocked kicks in Saturday's 21-20 win over Curry, Michael Burgess (North Yarmouth, Maine) has been named the NEFC Special Teams Player of the Week.
On Senior Day, Burgess helped lead the Mariners to their first conference win of the year with three blocked kicks, including a block on an extra point attempt late in the second half, and a blocked field goal on what would have been the game winner for the Colonels in the 4th quarter. The defensive lineman/punter also tallied 112 yards on three punts, including a long punt of 48 yards and one inside the 20.
Burgess broke his previous record of two blocked kicks against Massachusetts Maritime on October 22, 2011. Burgess is Maine Maritime's all-time leader in most career blocked kicks with 17, including five this season.
