Adam Richardson (Bradley, Maine) led the Mariners with 15 points, eight rebounds and a steal, while Andrew Liebert (Plano, Texas) tallied a career-high eight points and also added three rebounds, and a steal and Nick Judge (Cushing, Maine) and Riley Jorgenson (Vienna, Va.) each contributed seven points.
Raheem Anderson led the Eagles with 21 points, seven rebounds and five assists, while Kyanti Blyden added 13 points, four rebounds and an assist and Bruce St. Peter and Justin Martin added 10 points each.
The Eagles shot 47.1 percent from the floor compared the Mariners 30.8 percent shooting and held a 47-38 edge in rebounds.
Maine Maritime Academy's Last Game: Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball defeated Curry College 84-73 on Tuesday night in non-conference action inside of Katz Gymnasium.
With the win the Mariners improve to 1-10 on the season, while Curry drops to 1-9 overall. Maine Maritime returns to action on Saturday, January 6 against Husson University at 3:00 p.m. inside of Smith Gymnasium.
The Mariners jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first three minutes of play, but the Colonels took the lead with 12 minutes to go in the first half. The two teams battled back-and-forth until a pair of 3-pointers from Nicholas DePatsy (Waldoboro, Maine) and a layup from Adam Richardson sent the Mariners into halftime with a 42-31 lead.
Maine Maritime never looked back in the second half, leading by as much as 17 points (52-35) at 16:52. The Colonels closed the gap to single-digits in the closing minutes, but the Mariners hung on for the victory.
DePatsy and Richardson led Maine Maritime with 17 points each. DePatsy added five rebounds, three assists and a steal while Richardson chipped in with six rebounds and two assists. Brendan Newcomb (Holden, Maine) added 12 points, two assists and a rebound and Riley Jorgenson tallied his first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while also adding three steals and two assists.
Jared Thorpe-Johnson and Louis Stein led Curry with 17 points apiece. Thorpe-Johnson added three rebounds and an assist while Stein chipped in with two assists, a steal and a rebound. Justin Kelley contributed 15 points and three rebounds.
The Mariners shot 50.9 percent from the floor, while the Colonels shot 40.7 percent. Maine Maritime also held a 42-25 edge in rebounds.
Husson University's Last Game: Husson University fell to Simpson College 88-82 on December 18 at the Trip Sports Cruzin' Classic.
Husson senior guard Raheem Anderson tallied a game-high 34 points, four rebounds, and four assists, while shooting over 50% (14-26) from the field, in the loss to the Storm.
The Eagles trailed the Storm for the entire first half and finished the half down 50-42. The deficit was a mere free throw at the 11:52 mark when Justin Thompson drained a 3-pointer to pull his squad within one, 28-27. Tyler Stumbo gave the Storm a 39-37 lead shortly after Thompson's three-pointer. Simpson's lead fluctuated between two points and eight points for the final 12:08 of the first half. Raheem Anderson was the driving force for the Eagles with 18 first half points. Mitch Worcester drained two three-pointers for six total first half points.
After most of the same from the first half, the Eagles put together a run starting with 4:37 left in the game. A 9-2 run pulled Husson to within two points, 82-80, with 1:36 remaining in the game. Unfortunately, two points was as close as HU would get. Simpson knocked down their free throws and held onto win by a score of 88-82.
Corey Kaiser came off the bench to score seven points and haul in six rebounds. Cole Thomas scored six points and grabbed six boards and Mitch Worcester tallied 16 points, shooting 4-5 from behind the three-point arch, while also dishing out four assists.
As a team the Mariners are averaging 65.2 points, 34.7 rebounds and 16.5 assists per game. The team is shooting 40.3 percent from the floor, 30.6 percent from beyond the arc and 65.1 percent from the free throw line.
