Men's Basketball Announces 2017-2018 Schedule

CASTINE, Maine -- Maine Maritime Academy Men's Basketball is pleased to announce their 2017-2018 schedule.

Under the direction of first year head coach Dan McNeely, the Mariners will open up the 2017-18 season with five home games, beginning with a non-conference matchup with Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Wednesday, November 15.

"We are very excited about our schedule this upcoming season," said McNeely. "Our non-conference opponents are very strong, and this will help us prepare for a challenging NAC schedule."

The Mariners will remain in Castine to host the Maine Maritime Tip-Off Tournament against Wheelock College, Bates College and Trinity College on November 18 and 19.

The Mariners will open up North Atlantic Conference play on Tuesday, November 28 against UMaine-Farmington and wrap up the home stand with a non-conference matchup against NESCAC's Colby College on November 30.

"Starting with five-straight homes games will be beneficial for us because it will allow us to grow together as a team on and off the floor before we have to hit the road for the whole month of December," added McNeely. "I think by Christmas we should have a pretty good idea of where we are at as a team."

Maine Maritime will hit the road in December, with stops at conference rivals Husson University on December 2, Castleton University on December 8 and Green Mountain College on December 9.

The Mariners will head to New York over the winter break to face SUNY Maritime and Hunter College on December 29 and 30, and stop in Massachusetts for a battle with Curry College on January 2.

Maine Maritime will return to Smith Gymnasium in January for three NAC showdowns, beginning with Husson University on January 6 and New England College and Colby-Sawyer College on January 12 and 13. The Mariners will continue conference play until the season finale on February 17 at UMaine-Farmington.

Last season, the Mariners went 5-20 overall, including conference wins over New England College and Green Mountain College.

The Mariners will return their top four scorers from last season, including Tyler Thayer (Hermon, Maine) who averaged 17.5 points per game and Brendan Newcomb (Holden, Maine) who led the team and the NAC in three pointers per game (3.12).
