Mariners Hire Shawn Dennis to Coach Golf Team


Castine, ME – Maine Maritime Academy is pleased to announce that it has hired Shawn Dennis as its new Head Golf Coach.  Dennis begins his first year at MMA replacing Bob Flanders, who served as the Mariners Head Coach for two years.

 

Dennis, who has a Bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Maine at Orono, began his golfing career at Bangor Municipal Golf Course. He attended Bangor High School and played 4 years on the golf team winning a state title. Dennis has been a part of the Professional Golfers Association since 2008 and has been a teaching pro for the last three years. Shawn was an Assistant Professional at the Bangor Golf Course for 2 years before moving to Castine and becoming Head Professional at the Castine Golf Club.

 

"We are excited to have Shawn on board as our Golf coach and look forward to him injecting some energy and enthusiasm into the program. I have been impressed with his desire to fill this position and trust that our student athletes will gain for his knowledge as a PGA instructor", states interim athletic director Bill Finney.

 

The Mariner golf team will open its season on September 7th when they host UMaine Machias in Castine for a match play event.
