Klopfer Leads Mariners at UNE Invitational

KENNEBUNKPORT, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy golf finished sixth at Thursday's UNE Invitational at the Cape Arundel Golf Club, with a combined team score of 312.

Sophomore Erich Klopfer (Palm Harbor, Fla.) posted a 75 (+6) on the afternoon, leading the Mariners in the six-team field. Freshman Chance Whittemore (Skowhegan, Maine) finished just behind with a 77 (+8) and sophomore Joseph Moir (Bangor, Maine) and junior Chase Whittemore (Skowhegan, Maine) finished tied at 80 (+11). Senior Luke Olson (Charleston, Maine) shot an 89 on the afternoon.

Saint Joseph's College of Maine's Mike Caron carded a par-69 to claim the individual medalist honors and lead the Monks to the overall team victory with a score of 291. Endicott College placed second with a score of 298, followed by the hosts UNE, with 302 points.

The Mariners return to action this Saturday, September 24 at the Husson Invitational in Bangor, Maine.
