BANGOR, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy golf prepares for the 2016 North Atlantic Conference Men's Golf Championship on Saturday and Sunday, October 15 and 16, hosted by Husson University at the Bangor Municipal Golf Club.
The 36-hole event will begin Saturday at 10:00 a.m., and will conclude Sunday after all rounds have been completed. Tee times for Sunday's final round will begin at 9:00 a.m.
Last season the Mariners finished fourth (331-335-666) at the NAC Championship, led by Kevin Pepin who finished fifth, earning NAC First Team All-Conference and Keenan Kalthoff finished sixth, earning NAC First Team All-Conference honors for the third-straight season.
Earlier this season at the Husson Invitational at the Bangor Municipal Golf Course, the Mariners finished sixth overall, led by Joseph Moir (Bangor, Maine) who shot a career-low 75 on day two to place 12th.
Moir will lead the 2016 Maine Maritime lineup, followed by sophomore Erich Klopfer (Palm Harbor, Fla.), freshman Chance Whittemore (Skowhegan, Maine), junior Chase Whittemore (Skowhegan, Maine) and junior Karson Eaton (Mapleton, Maine).
In the preseason poll conducted by the league's coaches, Maine Maritime was selected to finish fourth again this year.
Eight teams will vie for the 2016 conference championship that was captured by Husson a season ago. The Eagles held the title for eight-straight seasons before Salem State earned the championship in 2014. The 2016 NAC Champion will earn the conference's automatic bid into the 2017 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship.
