WATERVILLE, Maine -- Maine Maritime Academy golf placed seventh out of nine teams on Wednesday at the UMaine-Farmington Invitational with a combined team score of 334.
Reigning North Atlantic Conference Rookie of the Week Connor Mersch (Holderness, N.H.) carded an 80 and tied for 12th overall to led the Mariners. Teammate Erich Klopfer (Palm Harbor, Fla.) carded an 82 to finish tied for 19th overall, Joey Moir (Bangor, Maine) finished tied for 28th with an 85, followed by Logan Peacock (West Gardiner, Maine) in 32nd with an 87 and Chance Whittemore (Skowhegan, Maine) in 36th with an 88.
UMaine-Farmington's Eric Aguiar shot one over par (71) to earn medalist honors and lead the hosting Beavers to the team victory with a combined team scored of 300. Southern Maine finished second with a team score of 311, followed by the University of New England with 318. Thomas College and Saint Joseph's College of Maine took fourth place with a 323, followed by Thomas College with 328 and in sixth Husson with 330.
The Mariners return to action on Saturday at the Maine State Golf Association Collegiate Championships at the Martindale Country Club in Auburn.
