CASTINE, Maine -- Maine Maritime netted 10 scores in the first half en route to a 15-4 win over Maine-Farmington in a North Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse quarterfinals Saturday. The Mariners advanced to Wednesday's semifinals at Castleton.
Nicholas Betti scored a game-high five goals for MMA, Alex Hermes added four, Bronson Guimond three and Nick Snelling, Cameron Wyman and Evan Carrier one. A.J. Larrabee and Snelling dished out a team-high two assists.
Mike Foley paced the Beavers' offense with two goals and Zack Rowland had two assists.
Hermes scored the first two goals of the game before A.J. Larrabee found Guimond to give the Mariners a 3-0 lead. Betti netted consecutive shots and Snelling scored a man-up goal to give Maine Maritime a 6-0 lead with 11:43 left in the second quarter. Jake Linkletter gave the Beavers their first point at 11:12 before the Mariners ended the half with three unanswered to lead 10-1 at halftime.
Hermes and Betti each scored twice to open the second half before Hermes found Carrier to give MMA a 15-1 lead with 12:09 left in the game. UMF scored three straight to end the game as TC Peters found the back of the net and Foley scored twice.
Erik Milles picked up the win with six saves while Ben Altmaier took the loss despite 17 saves.
