CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's lacrosse fell to SUNY Maritime 16-0, on Friday afternoon, in non-conference action on Ritchie Field.
The Privateers scored three goals in the first ten minutes of play, and tallied five goals in each of the first three periods to pick up the 16-0 win.
The Mariners were led offensively by Alex Grant-Roy (Biddeford, Maine) who registered seven shots, teammate Chase Whittemore (Skowhegan, Maine) tallied five shots and both Darius Phillips (Lewiston, Maine) and Dean Samuelson (Southbury, Conn.) recorded four shots. Defensively, Alec Grant (Hollis, N.H.) led the Mariners with three caused turnovers and Grant, George Doe (Kennebunkport, Maine) and Daniel Lee (Satellite Beach, Fla.) scooped up five ground balls each.
Lee stopped 20 shots in 45 minutes in net for the Mariners while teammate John Stolz (Scarborough, Maine) recorded three saves in the final quarter.
Danny Connell led the Privateers with four goals and two assists, while Nick Pellegrino recorded a hat trick and dished out two assists and Ian Ziemski added two goals. Paul Lafrancesca led the team with three caused turnovers and Nick San Filippo scooped up five ground balls.
Brendan McNally stopped all ten shots he faced in nearly three quarters of play, while Justin Weigold and Ian Ballou combined for the other four saves in net.
The Mariners fall to 0-3 on the season while SUNY Maritime improves to 2-2 overall. Maine Maritime returns to action next Saturday, March 18 when they open up North Atlantic Conference play against Lyndon State College at 1:00 pm on Ritchie Field.
