CASTLETON, Vt. – Maine Maritime Academy men's lacrosse cruised to a 17-1 victory over Green Mountain College on Friday morning in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action at Spartan Stadium.
With the victory the Mariners improve to 1-6 overall and 1-3 in the conference, while Green Mountain falls to 1-7 on the season and 1-4 in the NAC. The Mariners return to action tomorrow when they travel to take on Lyndon State College.
The Mariners took an 8-0 lead after the first quarter and never looked back, dominating in all statistical categories including winning the battle of ground balls 53-9, and winning 21 of 22 face offs.
Tom Anderson (Danvers, Mass.) led the Mariners with a hat-trick and six assists, while also scooping up three ground balls. Sawyer Watson (Topsham, Maine) added a game and career-high five goals, two ground balls and a caused turnover and Orion Sargent (Topsham, Maine) added four goals, six ground balls, and a caused turnover.
Zeke Tocci (Naples, Maine) added a hat-trick, four ground balls, two caused turnovers and an assist. Mitchell Farley (Biddeford, Maine) recorded a goal and scooped up 14 ground balls, while going 21-of-22 on the face off and Zach Davidson (Manchester, Maine) added the other goal, while scooping up three ground balls and causing a turnover.
In net Isaiah Weston (Mt. Vernon, Maine) earned the victory for the Mariners, making two saves in the first quarter, and teammate Matthew Emery (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) tallied three saves in three quarters of play.
Chris Surdam tallied the lone goal for the Eagles, while Finnian Arnold-Swanstrom led the team defensively with three caused turnovers. Chelsea Wimble stopped eight shots in net in the loss.
