Maine Maritime Academy men's cross country finished ninth out of 13 teams in the first race of the season, with a team score of 241, at the University of New England Invitational.
Zachary Kinsman led the Mariners with a time of 29:47 on the 8k course, finishing 28th overall. Spencer Boonstra finished 34th with a time of 30:23, followed by teammates Josh Richards and Victor Skorapa who finished back-to-back in 52nd and 53rd place. Keenan Martin finished 74th, John Ramsey in 75th, and Drew Cyr in 76th, to round out the top seven finishers for the Mariners.
Maine Maritime Academy's Anthony Boucher has been named to the North Atlantic Conference Men's Cross Country Sportsmanship Team.
Spencer Boonstra placed 214th out of 384 runners to lead Maine Maritime Academy men's cross country to a 41st place finish among 56 teams at Saturday's NCAA Regional Championship hosted by Westfield State.
Boonstra finished the 8K course at Stanley Park, with a time of 28:23.81 to lead the Mariners, while teammate Zachary Kinsman finished closely behind in 234th with a time of 28:41.4. Chase Hughes placed 247th, Josh Richards finished 276th and Paul Ferreira placed 293rd to round out the top five finishers for the Mariners.
The Maine Maritime Academy Men's Cross Country Team has been named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) 2016 Division III All-Academic Team.
The men's cross country team is comprised of 32 student-athletes who combined to average an overall GPA of 3.10. Maine Maritime Academy and Husson University were the only two North Atlantic Conference men's cross country teams to earn the honor.
This is the fifth-consecutive year that a Maine Maritime Academy Cross Country Team has been named to the USTFCCCA Division III All-Academic Team. The men's cross country team previously earned the honor in 2012, 2014 and 2015 and the women's cross country team earned the honor in 2013.
Spencer Boonstra ran a personal best 28:23.81 at the NCAA Division III Regional meet, leading the Mariners to a 41st place finish, four places better than last season. Boonstra was the top finisher for the Mariners in six of eight races.
After entering the season ranked 7th in the NAC Preseason Coaches Poll, the Mariners finished 5th at the North Atlantic Conference Championships.
The Mariners finished 12th as a team at the ECAC Championships, the highest by the team since competing in the event.
A number of Maine Maritime men's cross country runners were recognized at the Student Life Awards Banquet on April 5. Thomas White received the Social Entrepreneurship Award for The College Republicans. White was also nominated for the Mariner Pride Award for his work with the 2016 Election Events. Corey McCoy and the Woodsman Club were nominated for the Social Entrepreneurship Award. Victor Skorapa was nominated for the Award for Athletic Leadership. Arik Akerberg was nominated for the Phyllis Tenney Community Service and Leadership Award and the Student Employee of the Year Award. Ryan Donlon was nominated for the Outstanding Regimental Collaboration Award. Truman Slocum was nominated for the Student Government Leadership Award.
In the spring, the Mariners competed in three outdoor track & field meets. The Mariners first competed at the Bowdoin College Outdoor Invitational, then the Eric Loeschner Track & Field Invitational at Fitchburg State University and the Springfield College Outdoor Classic.
