CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy's Alayne Felix (Mahopac, N.Y.) has been named to the Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association (MWBCA) First Team All-State, while Caitlin Kane (Wilton, Maine) has been named to the MWBCA All-Rookie Team.
Felix, a sophomore Power Engineering Technology major, started in all 26 games this season and led the Mariners and the conference with 445 total points, 17.1 points per game, and a 52.8 field goal percentage. The 2016 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Rookie of the Year averaged a team-leading 6.1 rebounds per game, as well as 1.6 assists per game, and 1.3 steals per game. Felix tallied double-digit point totals in all of Maine Maritime's 26 games this season, and recorded three double-double performances, all against conference opponents. This season, Felix pulled down a career-high 16 rebounds against UMaine-Farmington on January 10 and was named to the NAC First Team for the second-straight year.
Kane, a freshman International Business & Logistics major, appeared in all 26 games for the Mariners, earning the start in 21 contests. Kane averaged 7.9 points per game, while shooting 39.2 percent from the floor, 3.1 rebounds per game and led the team with 2.6 assists per game. Kane tallied a career-high totals of 20 points against Green Mountain College on February 11, nine rebounds against Colby on November 19, 2016 and seven rebounds against UMaine-Presque Isle on December 3, 2016. In the Mariners' 71-61 win over Thomas College on February 18, Kane tied the MMA single-game record for free throw percentage (100%) when she made all nine of her attempts from the line. Kane also broke the MMA single-season record for 3-point field goal percentage (.449) and was named to the NAC Sportsmanship Team.
