CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy Women's Basketball is pleased to announce their 2017-2018 schedule.
The Mariners will open up the season at home against Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Wednesday, November 15, before traveling to the Curry College Tipoff Tournament on November 18 and 19, to face Mount Holyoke College and either Curry College or Pine Manor College.
"This is probably one of the toughest schedules we have had in recent memory," said Head Women's Basketball Coach Craig Dagan. "We are looking forward to returning to the Curry College Tipoff Tournament, which always has good teams."
Maine Maritime opens up North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play on Tuesday, November 28 against UMaine-Farmington at 5:30 pm, inside of Smith Gymnasium and travels to Bangor to face in-state rival, Husson University on Saturday, December 2 at 1:00 pm.
"The NAC is getting better and better every year," added Dagan, "This will be the last time we play Colby-Sawyer and Castleton because they will be leaving the conference, but we are excited to continue that rivalry this season."
Maine Maritime will play the University of Maine at Orono on Tuesday, December 5, at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor. The Mariners and Black Bears will meet for only the second time in Maine Maritime women's basketball program history and the first time since 2011.
"The highlight of our non-conference schedule will be our matchup against UMaine on December 5th," said Dagan.
The Mariners will remain on the road for the entire month of December, including a trip to Danbury, Connecticut for the Hat City Tournament on December 29 and 30.
Maine Maritime returns to Smith Gymnasium in January for a four-game home stand including the second conference meeting with Husson University on Saturday, January 6, and a matchup with NESCAC's Colby College on Tuesday, January 9.
"We are excited to have Colby back on our schedule, as our second NESCAC opponent after playing Trinity College in Connecticut over winter break. We are looking forward to playing a tough schedule with our strong group of returners," said Dagan.
The Mariners will host New England College on Friday, January 12 and host Colby-Sawyer College on Saturday, January 13 for a rematch of last year's NAC Quarterfinal, before hitting the road for three conference games.
Maine Maritime returns to Castine on January 26 and 27 to host Green Mountain College and Castleton University, and will head to New Hampshire the following weekend to face the Chargers and Pilgrims.
The Mariners will host UMaine-Presque Isle on Tuesday, February 6 to wrap up non-conference play, before hosting NAC opponents Johnson State College on Friday, February 9, Lyndon State College on Saturday, February 10, and Thomas College on Wednesday, February 14. Maine Maritime will conclude regular season play at UMaine-Farmington on Saturday, February 17 at 1:00 pm.
