Tuesday's Game: Maine Maritime Academy (13-7) vs. University of Maine Presque Isle (3-16), 5:30 p.m., Smith Gymnasium, Castine, Maine. 

Series History: The Mariners hold an 18-11 all-time record over the Owls, including 11-straight victories. When hosting, the Mariners are 13-6 against UMPI.

Last Meeting: Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball cruised to a 91-53 victory over UMaine-Presque Isle last season on November 118, 2016 in the opening game of the Pepsi Mariner Classic, inside of Smith Gym.

The Mariners jumped out to a 22-13 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.

Melinda Ogden (Searsport, Maine) led the Mariners with 18 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals, while Alayne Felix (Mahopac, N.Y.) added 17 points, seven rebounds, and an assist, and Alex Winchester added 12 points, four steals, one rebound, and one assist. Emily Melick (Sudbury, Mass.) chipped in with 11 points and four rebounds, Kristi Willey tallied a team-high eight assists, five steals, and four points and Caitlin Kane (Wilton, Maine) pulled down seven rebounds, to go with six points, four steals and a block.

Amanda Hotham led the Owls with 22 points, nine rebounds, and two assists while teammate Sydney Churchill added nine points, three assists, and one rebound. 

The Mariners held the edge in rebounds (37-34) and shot 43.8 percent from the floor while the Owls shot 30.9 percent.

Maine Maritime Academy's Last Game: Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball held on for a 59-55 victory over New England College last Saturday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action inside of Bridges Gymnasium. 

The Mariners scored 13-unanswered points early in the first quarter to take a 17-8 lead into the second quarter.

New England College scored four-straight to open up the second quarter and closed the Mariners' lead to five (17-12). Samantha Mason (Lamoine, Maine) made a layup with 2:13 to go in the half to extend Maine Maritime's lead to 10, but the Pilgrims hit a shot to close the gap to eight (28-20) entering halftime.

Alayne Felix, Caitlin Kane and Melinda Ogden sank threes on three-consecutive Maine Maritime possessions to build a 39-22 lead in the third quarter. The Mariners led by double-digits for the rest of the quarter and entered the final 10 minutes with a 50-35 lead.

The Pilgrims clawed their way back into the game, scoring 15-unswered points to start the fourth quarter and tied the game at 50-50 with 6:10 to play. The two teams exchanged the lead back-and-forth until Felix made a layup with 1:55 to play and the Mariners pulled down a pair of crucial defensive rebounds and went 3-of-4 from the line in the final seconds to take the 59-55 victory.

Felix led the Mariners with 20 points, eight rebounds, five assists, a steal and a block and teammate Ogden added 15 points, three assists, two steals and a rebound.

Rene Hudson scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Pilgrims, while also adding five rebounds, three assists and a steal. 

Maine Maritime shot 45.1 percent from the floor, while the Pilgrims shot 36.4 percent. New England College shot 58.3 percent from three-point land, while the Mariners only shot 46.2 percent and the Pilgrims held a 37-32 edge in rebounds.

University of Maine at Presque Isle's Last Game: The University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls could not overcome an early deficit, falling to the University of Maine at Fort Kent Bengals by a final score of 62-48 on Friday, February 2.

The Bengals finished the first quarter on an 8-0 run and take a 21-7 lead.  UMFK took a 20-point lead early in the third quarter, but UMPI closed the gap outscoring the Bengals by five in the second half. The Owls were never closed the early deficit and the Bengals held on for the victory.

The Owls shot 23.8% from the floor, while the Bengals held a 46-39 edge in rebounds and shot 40.4% from the floor.

Rhylee Wright led all scorers with 31 points, 13 rebounds, three blocks, and two steals. Marissa Reagle added nine rebounds, while Emilia Churchill contributed five points.

Savanna Jankowski and Tate Dolley scored 14 points each to lead the Bengals.

The Mariners: Alayne Felix leads the Mariners with 16.8 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. Megan McLean (Eliot, Maine) leads the team with 3.2 assists and both Felix and Melinda Ogden lead the team with 1.4 steals per game.

As a team the Mariners are averaging 63.7 points, 41.5 rebounds and 16.1 assists per game. The team is shooting 39.8 percent from the floor, 30.5 percent from beyond the arc and 65.3 percent from the free throw line.

The Owls: Rhylee Wright leads the Owls with 14.6 points, 9.3 rebounds and 3.1 blocks per game. Marissa Reagle leads the team with 2.6 assists and 2.2 steals per game.

As a team the Owls are averaging 44.8 points, 36.1 rebounds and 10 assists per game. The team is shooting 29.3 percent from the floor, 20.7 percent from beyond the arc and 58.4 percent from the line.
