CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball sailed to a 69-30 victory over Johnson State College on Friday night in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action inside of Smith Gymnasium.
With the victory the Mariners improve to 15-7 on the season and 10-5 in the NAC, while the Badgers fall to 3-18 on the season and 2-13 in the conference. Maine Maritime returns to action tomorrow against Lyndon State College at 1:00 pm.
The two teams exchanged baskets early in the first quarter, but the Mariners went on an eight-point run to take a 10-point lead with 3:03 to go in the quarter and never looked back, holding onto a double-digit advantage for the rest of the game and cruising to the 69-30 victory.
Alayne Felix (Mahopac, N.Y.) led all players with 14 points, and added eight rebounds, two assists and a steal and teammate Eryn Doiron (Wilton, Maine) added 10 points, two rebounds, one assist and one steal. Chloe Smedley (York, Maine) pulled down eight rebounds, and dished out four assists and tallied a steal to go with two points.
Jocelyn Pellerin led the Badgers with 12 points, three rebounds and two steals.
The Mariners shot 39.3 percent from the floor, while the Badgers shot 19.6 percent. The Mariners also held a 53-21 edge in rebounds.
