Mariners Notch First Win; Blank UMPI 3-0

WATERVILLE, Maine – Maine Maritime earned its first win this season with a 3-0 win over Maine-Presque Isle Friday in a non-conference women's soccer match at the Thomas Invitational. The Mariners improved to 1-2.

After a scoreless first half Ashlee Knight put Maine Maritime on the board off a feed from Andi Flannery at 53:45. Annie Koensgen scored in the 66th minute when a corner kick was deflected by the goalie. The senior collected the carom and buried the ball on the left side. 

Sarah Brochu made it 3-0 at 79:23 off a pass from Briana Obshatkin. Obshatkin sent a through pass and Brochu beat the keeper on the left side.

Taylor O'Malley stopped four shots in goal for the Mariners while Amanda Larrabee had five saves for UMPI.

Maine Maritime returns to action Saturday, 3 p.m., against Southern Maine at Thomas.
