CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's soccer defeated Green Mountain College, 8-0 on Saturday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference action on Ritchie Field.
Prior to the game the Mariners honored their five seniors: Ashlee Knight (Anson, Maine), Morgan Libby (Brunswick, Maine), Maggie McConkey (Fryeburg, Maine), Lauren McKenna (Wilmington, Mass.), and Briana Obshatkin (Dedham, Mass.). Click HERE to view the photos from Senior Day.
Obshatkin got the scoring started in the second minute on a pass from Libby. Olivia Paquette (Waterboro, Maine) found Makayla Lewis (Purcellville, Va.) for her eleventh goal of the season, in the seventh minute to give the Mariners a 2-0 lead. Libby added a goal of her own in the 15th minute, on an assist from Lewis.
Eryn Doiron (Wilton, Maine) and Melissa Huot (Biddeford, Maine) picked up back-to-back unassisted goals to increase the Maine Maritime Academy lead to 6-0, and Shelby O'Neil (Bar Harbor, Maine) found Eleanor Carr (Bucksport, Maine) in front of the net in the 44th minute to send the Mariners into halftime with a 7-0 lead.
McKenna added her first goal of the season in the 46th minute, on an assist from Kylie Bradley (Westborough, Mass.) to cap off the scoring for the Mariners.
McConkey and Alice Van Kovn (Lancaster, Calif.) split time in net, combining for the team's sixth shutout of the season. Tyah Culp tallied 17 saves in net for the Eagles, in the loss.
The Mariners improve to 8-6-1 overall and 5-3 in NAC play, while the Eagles fall to 0-14-1 on the season and 0-7-1 in the conference. Maine Maritime returns to action tomorrow at 12:00 pm when they host Castleton University in their regular season finale.
