SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Maine Maritime Academy women's soccer fought back from an early 1-0 deficit, to claim a 2-1 overtime victory over Salve Regina in the first round of the ECAC Region 1 Championship on Saturday afternoon.
Francesca Galeazzi scored on an assist from teammate Kayla McLaughlin in the 21st minute to give the No. 2 seed Salve Regina a 1-0 lead, but the Mariners battled back when Makayla Lewis (Purcellville, Va.) tied the game up early in the second half, on a pass from Allison Boulier (Bangor, Maine).
Neither team broke the deadlock, sending the game into overtime. Maine Maritime's Caitlin Paradis (Ashland, Maine) scored early in overtime on an assist from Emily Wyman (Brockton, Mass.), to lift the Mariners to victory.
Maine Maritime's keeper Maggie McConkey (Fryeburg, Maine) tallied four saves in net, while Seahawk's keeper Morgan McBrier also stopped four shots, in the loss.
With the win, the Mariners improve to 10-6-2 overall and will advance to the ECAC Region 1 Championship game tomorrow at 12:00 p.m., against the No. 1 seed Springfield College (12-5-3).
