CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's soccer fell to Husson University 1-0, on Saturday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action at Ritchie Field.
Maine Maritime's Emily Conway (Charleston, S.C.) came up huge for the Mariners with 14 minutes left in the first half when she came out of net to challenge Husson's Leah Hibbad and broke up the scoring opportunity.
The two teams battled to scoreless draw in the first half, with the Mariners holding a narrow 4-3 edge in shots.
The Eagles broke the stalemate in the 64th minute when Taylor Fortin played a ball at midfield to Hibbad, who beat a charging Conway for her 16th goal of the season.
The Mariners continued to fight but could not find the back of the net and the Eagles hung on for the victory.
Conway ended the afternoon with three saves in the loss, while Sami Ireland earned the win in net for Husson.
The Mariners fall to 4-9 overall and 3-3 in conference play, while the Eagles improve to 6-4 on the season and 5-1 in NAC play. Maine Maritime returns to action next Sunday, October 15 when they host UMaine-Presque Isle for a non-conference matchup at 2:00 pm.
