Maine Maritime Academy Women's Soccer Announces 2018 Recruiting Class

CASTINE, Maine -- Maine Maritime Academy Women's Soccer is proud to announce the addition of seven signees for the 2018 recruiting class.

Five newcomers hail from Maine with two out-of-state signees calling Ohio and Massachusetts home. The class includes: forwards MacKenzie Carter (Ashland High School, Maine), Jillian Holden (Madison Area High School, Maine), Payje LeClerc (Old Orchard Beach High School, Maine), midfielder Margot Simeon (Findlay High School, Ohio), defenders Lauren Wood (Erksine Academy, Maine) and Avery Nelson (Foxcroft Academy, Maine), and goalkeeper Amber Durant (Mansfield High School, Massachusetts).

"We have put a lot of time and effort into securing these seven student-athletes," said Maine Maritime Academy Head Women's Soccer Coach Seth Brown. "We have a group that is looking to come in and immediately make an impact on this program. Our expectations are high for the 2018 season and see this class playing a large role over their next four seasons. We are excited about welcoming them into the MMA women's soccer and Mariners family. The coaching staff has enjoyed getting to know these players during this process and can't wait to get to work in August."

"Margot is a player we've had our eye on for over two years. She is tailor-made for our midfield. She is going to be someone that wants the ball at her feet and will be able to pull the strings when we are in possession. Having her in the mix of our midfield is going to be exciting to watch," said Brown.

"We have some schools on the schedule with outstanding wing play. Lauren is a strong defender and the type of player that is going to help negate those teams' perceived advantage," said Brown. "Adding her to an already experienced backline is going to do wonders for our success this year."

"We first evaluated Jillian during her state finals game and have seen a great deal of growth as a player over the last several months," said Brown. "She brings a lot of energy on the field and we are looking forward to having her competitive nature within the program and seeing her continued development as a player."

"MacK is coming into this program after setting numerous school records and scoring a record amount of goals," said Brown. "We are looking for her to leave that kind of impact on this program, beginning with her first year. She brings a playmakers mentality to the attack and is going to make everyone's lives easier on the field."

"Payje had a great visit with us and we felt really good that she would end up a Mariner. She has scored a lot of goals at Old Orchard Beach and we can't wait to see her continue that form at MMA this season and really push the other forwards," said Brown.

"Amber gives us another talented goalkeeping option. After playing the 2017 season with only one keeper on the roster, it will be nice to have Amber working with Emily (Conway) and (Assistant Coach) Zach this fall. We really like what she is going to be able to provide us in 2018."
