WATERVILLE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's soccer knocked off Thomas College 2-0 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) matchup Tuesday night on Smith Field.
With the win the Mariners improve to 11-4 overall and a perfect 8-0 in the NAC, claiming the top seed and the right to host the upcoming NAC Tournament. The Terriers drop to 4-9-1 overall and 3-4-1 in conference, claiming the sixth seed in the NAC Tournament.
Laura Blue (Brisbane, Australia) got the Mariners going midway throuugh the first half, heading in a rebound off a Kelsey Bern (Castle Rock, Wash.) shot to give the Mariners a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute. The two teams tied 6-6 in shots in the first half.
Eryn Doiron (Wilton, Maine) extended the Mariners' lead to 2-0 in the 67th minute when she capitalized on a penalty kick. The Mariners outshot the Terriers 15-11 in the game and had a 14-2 advantage corner kicks.
Emily Conway (Charleston, S.C.) picked up two saves in 75 minutes and the win for the Mariners, while Bess MacArthur (Castine, Maine) saw no shots in 15 minutes of relief. Isabell Lang made eight saves in net for the Terriers in 75 minutes of action while Lauren Bartlett registered zero saves in relief.
UMaine-Farmington (7-9-1, 5-2-1), the #3 seed, will host #6 Thomas (4-10-1, 3-4-1), and #4 SUNY Delhi (8-6-2, 5-2-1) will host #5 SUNY Canton (4-12-1, 3-4-1) this weekend in quarterfinal games. Pre-determined conference tiebreaking procedures were used to separate tied teams. First round games will be either Saturday, November 2 or Sunday, November 3, with specific game details to be announced on Wednesday.

The semifinal and championship games hosted by the Mariners will take place the following weekend. Semifinal games between #1 Maine Maritime and the winner of the #4 SUNY Delhi/#5 SUNY Canton matchup, and #2 Husson and the #3 UMaine-Farmington/#6 Thomas matchup are tentatively scheduled for Saturday, November 9th. The semifinal game winners will compete for the conference championship, tentatively scheduled for Sunday, November 10th.
The NAC Champion will move on to play in the NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament.
