CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime's Maria Barela (Albuquerque, N.M.) has been named the Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association (MWBCA) Player of the Week.
 
Barela led the Mariners to a 2-0 week against conference opponents with 44 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, and four steals. Barela started off the weekend with a game-high 22 points, shooting 67% from the hardwood and 63% from beyond the arc, in addition to five rebounds, two assists, and two steals in a 83-58 victory against SUNY Canton. She followed up on Saturday afternoon in a 95-79 win against NVU-Johnson with a team-high 22 points, on 57% shooting, five rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
