Maria Barela has been named to the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Second Team.

Barela led the Mariners to three conference wins this week by stuffing the stat sheet with 42 points, shooting 58% from the hardwood, 21 rebounds, 17 assists, eight steals, and two blocks. She started the week scoring a game-high 14 points, going 6-for-10 from the floor, while adding four rebounds, three assists, and three steals in a 69-46 win against UMaine-Farmington. The junior guard followed up on Friday night in a 90-53 win against UMaine-Presque Isle with 12 points, going 5-for-9 from the floor, a game-high eight assists, seven rebounds, two steals, and one block. Barela finished the week in a 92-62 win against the Owls with a double-double, scoring 12 points and pulling down 10 rebounds, in addition to a tied game-high six assists, three steals, and one block.

This was Barela's first time receiving the honor this season.

Barela and the rest of the Mariners are on the road for a game tonight against Southern Maine Community College at 6:00 pm.
