Presque
Isle, ME. -- Maine Maritime Academy traveled to UMPI for a pair of
weekend games and came away with a split after falling to UMFK,
87-66, and then defeating the Owls from UMPI 66-63 in
non-conference action.
In
Saturday's matchup, the University of Maine at Fort Kent over came
an early 12 point deficit to run away from the Mariners 87-66. UMFK
held a 9 point half time advantage and out scored the Mariners by
12 in the second stanza for the win.
The
Bengals enjoyed excellent outside shooting, going 12 of 26 from
behind the arc. Manny Odugbela and Jeremy Thomas each nailed three
from beyond the arc.
The
Mariners were led by Jarred Sternbergh (Jonesboro, ME), who scored
14 points while Tyler Pineo (Corinth,
ME) chipped in with 11 points. Paul Campbell (Camden, ME) led the
Mariners with 7 rebounds and 5 assists.
Jeremy Thomas led the Bengals with 18 points while Alan Campbell
had 15 points and 8 rebounds. Othniel Hylinger had a team high 10
rebounds for UMFK.
In Sunday's matchup, MMA beat the University of Maine at Presque
Isle 66-63 behind the efforts of Sam Bell (Calais, ME).
Bell scored a team high 18 points and connected on 4-of-4 free
throws in the victory. With those four freethrows, Bell broke the
school record for consecutive freethrows made which stands at 29 in
a row.
Jarred Sternburgh was the only other Mariner in double figures
with 11 points and a team high 7 rebounds. The Mariners collected
13 offensive rebounds in the game.
UMPI was led by Ray Mitchell, who scored 18 points while Kyle
Corrigan and Devon Peaslee chipped in with 12 and 10 points
respectively.
Maine
Maritime Academy (3-6) will not play again until January 8th when
they host the UMaine Presque Isle Owls at 8pm.
