Maine - The Mariners lost their first home game of the season on
Tuesday night falling to the Moose from the University of Maine
Augusta 79-71 in overtime. The score was knotted at 70 after two
halves but the Moose outscored MMA 9-1 in overtime to secure the
victory.
The
Moose overcame a late 9-point deficit and battled back to take a
two-point lead with 37 seconds left. UMaine Augusta held for the
final shot but failed to convert and the game went into
overtime.
Lawrence Williams led the Moose with a team high 24 points and a
game high 19 rebounds while Jawaan Stallings poured in 22 for the
victors. Eric Collins played well in the win scoring 19 points and
connected on 4 of 6 threes in the win. Stallings had a game high 6
assists while playing all 45 minutes.
The
Mariners were led by Paul Campbell (Camden, ME), who scored 26
points on 11 for 23 shooting. Jarred Sternbergh (Jonesboro, ME)
scored 9 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in 40 minutes for MMA. Sam Bell (Calais,
ME) and Shawn
Dostie (Bowdoinham, ME) scored 15 points and 10 points
respectively while Ben Russell
(Farmington, ME) led the Mariners with 4 assists. With the loss,
MMA drops to 1-3 on the season.
