Presque Isle, Maine --- Amethyst Cousins (Bass Harbor, ME) scored 17 points and grabbed 9 rebounds as the Maine Maritime women's basketball team used tremendous defense which limited the Owls to 29% shooting en route to a 49-36 victory over UMaine Presque Isle in non-conference play Tuesday night. 

The Lady Mariners enjoyed at double digit lead for the majority of the game and extended the lead to 21 points midway through the second half before UMPI closed the gap to 13 as the game ended.

MMA is 2-3 overall heading into the Regis College Tournament this weekend when they square off against Tufts University.

MMA used relentless defense that held the Owls to 12 first half points and limited to visitors to 29% shooting from the floor. The Lady Mariners collected a season high 17 steals and had 14 assists on 17 made baskets.

Sam Goda (Eliot, ME) contributed 6 points and 6 rebounds while Katie Pushard (Winthrop, ME) chipped in with 6 points and 5 assists. 

Kathy Kilfoil led the Owls with 10 points while Megan Korhonen chipped in with 8 points of her own.
