Maine - The Lady Mariner Volleyball team hosted The University of
Southern Maine Huskies for a non-conference match-up Tuesday
evening at Margaret Smith Gymnasium. MMA won the match 3-0 behind
the trio of Amy Young (Cumberland, ME), Chelsea Ward (Homer, AK),
and Jennifer Dixon (Woodstock, MD).
The
Lady Mariners beat the Huskies by the score of 3-0 (25-20, 25-15,
and 25-13). Freshman setter Jenn Dixon had a record setting night
for MMA collecting a school record 38 assists in the three game
match. Sophomore outside hitter Chelsea Ward led the MMA hitting
attack with 17 kills on 24 attempts while senior captain Amy Young
was outstanding, smashing 14 kills and gathering 8 digs. Sophomore
Kayley Rodriguez (Quincy, IL) played well again for the Lady
Mariners collecting eight service aces on the night. Lauren
Sakahara (Bellevue, WA) led MMA with 12 digs.
Shannon
Shuttle (New Ipswich, NH) paced USM with 4 kills and 11 digs while
sophomore setter Laurie Boulay (Biddeford, ME) and Danielle Netland
(Cumberland, ME) each collected 4 assists in the match.
The
win improved MMA's record to 3-0 on the year while the Huskies drop
to 0-3 on the season.
