Maine --- The Maine Maritime Women's Basketball team used a
tremendous defensive effort and balanced scoring to cruise past the
Beavers from UMaine Farmington in a North Atlantic Conference game
Tuesday night at Margaret Smith Chase Gymnasium.
The
Lady Mariners extended a 15-point lead at the half by outscoring
the Beavers by 18 in the second half en route to the 33-point
victory.
The Lady Mariners shot 56% from the floor and dished out 30
assists on 33 field goals while out rebounding the visitors 47-33.
MMA's bench outscored UMF's bench 39-15. MMA improves to 6-5
overall and moves to 1-0 in the NAC while the Beavers slip to 3-6
overall and 1-1 in the NAC.
Jess
Stahl (Bowdoin, ME) led the Lady Mariners with 17 points on 7-of-10
shooting while collecting 6 rebounds and 2 assists. Maggie Smith (Bath,
ME) got MMA off to a quick start by scoring 10 points early in the
first half for MMA on her way to 14 points in the game. Katie Pushard
(Winthrop, ME) and Brittany Hunt
(Hickory, NC) each added 10 points while Pushard led MMA with a
career high seven assists. Amethyst Cousins
(Bass Harbor, ME) and Sam Goda (Eliot, ME) combined for 12 points,
16 rebounds, eight assists, and three steals in the win.
Jillian
Ross (Belfast, ME) led the Beavers with 13 points and grabbed a
team high six rebounds. Caitlyn Laflin (Farmingdale, ME), who sat
most of the first half with foul trouble, was the only other UMF
player in double figures with 10-points. Emma Morrison (Saco, ME)
led UMF with four assists and two steals.
MMA
is back in action on Friday when they travel to Husson while UMF
travels to Thomas on Saturday to take on the Terriers.
