MMA drops NAC opener to UMF

Castine, Maine --- The University of Maine at Farmington Men's basketball team took home their first win of the season at Maine Maritime Academy on Tuesday night beating the Mariners 65-54 in North Atlantic Conference action.

The Beavers lead by 16 at half and connected on 11 of 19 threes while outrebounding MMA 41-25 to secure the win. The Beavers improve 1-8 overall and 1-0 in the conference. MMA gets their first loss in conference play and slips to 4-7 overall.

Junior Andrew Dean (Gorham, ME) led the Beaver attack with 31 points including 9-of-12 threes. Josh Tanguay (Gorham, ME) grabbed 9 rebounds and added 7 points while Eric Taylor (Oakland, ME) scored 6 points and snatched 7 rebounds.

Senior Jarred Sternbergh (Jonesboro, ME) led the Mariners with 16 points. Freshmen Ben Russell (Farmington, ME) added 10 points. Sam Bell (Calais, ME) and Shawn Dostie (Bowdoinham, ME) each chipped in with 8 points apiece. Sam Bell added to his school record for consecutive free throws made, bringing it to 33 on the season.
