Maine --- The Bowdoin College women's basketball team surpassed the
Lady Mariners 64-52 on Tuesday night at Maine Maritime Academy in a
non-conference match-up. With the win Bowdoin improved to 14-3 on
the season while MMA drops to 8-8.
The
Polar Bears lead by eight at the half (33-25) due to
offensive rebounds and stellar full court pressure defense that
forced MMA into 14 first half turnovers. The Lady Mariners
responded well in the second half cutting the lead to 33-27 after a
Sam Goda field goal, but the Polar Bears went on a 5-0 spurt and
MMA never got the deficit under ten points again in the game.
Sophomore
Amy Hackett (Bangor, ME) led the Polar Bear attack with 16 points
and 6 rebounds. Junior Katie Bergeron (Bradley, ME), had an
outstanding game, scoring 14 points, grabbing 8 rebounds, dishing
out 5 assists, and collecting 4 steals. Leah Rubega (Norwich, CT)
played well in the win scoring 9 points and grabbing 8
rebounds.
Sophomore
forward Sam Goda (Eliot, ME) led the Mariners with 13 points and 10
rebounds while Brittany Hunt
(Hickory, NC) chipped in with 11 points. Freshman Casey McCloskey
(Howland, ME) played well in the loss scoring 5 points and dishing
out 4 assists.
