Mariners fall to Colby in defensive battle

Castine, Maine --- The Colby College Men's basketball team overcame a two point half time deficit at Maine Maritime Academy on Tuesday night beating the Mariners 58-46 in a non conference match up. With the win the White Mules improve to 13-2 on the year while the Mariners drop to 5-11.

The Mariners played great defense in the first half limiting Colby to 18 points and 25% shooting.  MMA held a slim 20-18 lead going into the half before Colby broke out with 40-second half points on 55% shooting.  The Mariners were hampered by 17 turnovers and went 2-for-13 from beyond the arc.

Senior Adam Choice (Newport, RI) led the visitors with 16 points and eight rebounds in 37 minutes of action. Christian Van Loenen (Falmouth, ME) and Mike Russell (Wellesley, MA) each chipped in with 13 points, while Justin Sherman (Piedmont, CA) had a team high four assists and three steals.

Senior Jarred Sternbergh (Jonesboro, ME) led the Mariners with 16 points. Sam Bell (Calais, ME) played well in the loss scoring 12 points, dishing out five assists and collecting three steals.
