MMA loses to Lyndon State 89-82

Castine, Maine --- The Lyndon State College Men's basketball team took home a victory Friday night as they defeated Maine Maritime Academy 89-82 in a North Atlantic Conference match up. The Hornets had six players reach double figures en route to their third NAC win of the season.

With the win the Hornets improve to 7-9 overall and 3-3 in the conference, while the Mariners drop to 5-12 overall and 1-5 in the Conference.

Lyndon State led by eight at half and held off a late Mariners comeback to secure the win. The Hornets shot a sultry 47.7% from the floor and made 14 threes while the Mariners shot 46.5% and went 72.2% from the free three line.

Sophomore Ben Sackett (Lyndonville, VT) led the visitors with 26 points, including 8-9 from the free throw line and four three pointers. Jose Fortunato (Boston, MA) also made a huge contribution to the victory collecting a triple double, scoring 12 points, dishing out 15 assists, and grabbing 12 rebounds. O'Bee Byrd (Waterbury, CT) also played well for the Hornets scoring 13 points and snatching 7 rebounds. The Hornets had 28 assists in the game and committed only 12 turnovers.

Sophomore Shawn Dostie (Bowdoinham, ME) led the Mariners in scoring with a career high 26 points and grabbing 8 rebounds. Sam Bell (Calais, ME) led a trio of others in double figures scoring 15 points and grabbing 9 rebounds while Tyler Pineo (Corinth, ME) and Jarred Sternbergh (Jonesboro, ME) had 13 and 12 points respectively.
