Lady Mariners win In Overtime, Brogden Scores Game Winner

Box Score

Castine, Maine – The Maine Maritime Academy Lady Mariner soccer team beat the University of Maine at Presque Isle 1-0 in a non-conference match-up at Ritchie Field on Wednesday afternoon. Junior forward Emily Brogden (Union, ME) scored in the 93rd minute to give MMA the victory.

With the win, MMA improves to 4-7-1 on the season, while the Owls fall to 8-3 on the year.

Despite UMPI out shooting MMA 17-4 in the contest both teams struggled to find quality opportunities in regulation play. With just over six minutes left in the first overtime, Jess Stahl (Bowdoin, ME) gathered the ball on the left flank and lofted a high ball to the edge of the penalty box. The UMPI keeper and an MMA defender collided and the ball squirted loose to the foot of Emily Brogden and she passed the ball into the right corner of the net for the game winner.

Lacey Jackson (York, PA) recorded the win for MMA and improves to 4-7-1 on the year while Taylor Ussery (La Verne, CA) took the loss for the Owls.
