Castine, ME - The Colby College Women's Basketball team scored 52 points in the paint en route to a 72-53 victory over the Lady Mariners from Maine Maritime in a non-conference match-up on Wednesday night.
Despite trailing for most of the game, the Lady Mariners had chances to close the gap on the Mules but missed several layups and 11 free throws which hampered the come back efforts. Colby pounded MMA in the paint, scoring 52 of their 72 points inside.
The Mules were led by the trio of Rachael Mack (Augusta, ME), Julianne Kowalski (Montville, NJ), and Diana Manduca (Portland, ME) with each scoring 14 points in the win. Kowalski led the Mules with eight rebounds while Aarika Ritchie (Lee, ME) contributed 10 points and a team high four assists.
The Lady Mariners got an outstanding performance from sophomore Casey Everest (Portland, ME), who scored a season high 11 points while Brittany Hunt (Hickory, NC) pitched in 11 as well including 3-for-6 from beyond the arc. Sam Goda (Eliot, ME) was solid in the losing effort, scoring 10 points while grabbing a team high six rebounds.
With the win, the nationally ranked Mules improve to 4-0 while MMA falls to 2-2 on the season. Both teams will be back in action on Saturday when the Lady Mariners travel to St. Joseph's College and the Mules travel to Bowdion College.
