Maine Maritime Crushed By Polar Bears

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College women's basketball team shot 65% from the field and were never challenged in an 87-38 victory over Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday at Morrell Gymnasium. The Polar Bears finish their fall semester with a record of 7-1 and #24 ranking in the latest Division III poll. The Mariners finish their pre-break schedule with a mark of 3-4.


The Polar Bears were led by a balanced attack, paced by 14 points, six assists and three steals by Kaitlin Donahoe. Colleen Sweeney scored 11 points with five boards while Jill Henrikson added 11 points thanks to a trio of three-pointers. Maritime was led by 16 points and five boards from Maggie Smith.


Bowdoin sprinted to a 48-17 halftime lead thanks to red-hot shooting and suffocating defense. The Polar Bears connected on 20 of their 32 attempts (62.5%) and hit on 5-9 from three-point range. Meanwhile, the Mariners committed 16 first-half turnovers, 11 off of Bowdoin steals, as the hosts used a 19-6 run over the final five minutes of the frame to take a 31-point lead at the break.


The Polar Bears shot even better in the second half (69.6%) and ended 36-55 from the field (65.5%). Bowdoin held a 36-26 edge on the glass and collected 17 steals in the win.
