Maine --- The Husson University women's basketball team overcame a
15-point first half deficit to defeat the Lady Mariners 66-60 on
Tuesday night at Maine Maritime Academy in a conference match-up.
With the win Husson improves to 13-8 on the season while MMA drops
to 12-9.
The
Lady Mariners jumped out to an early 26-11 lead before Husson
battled back to close the gap to 32-25 ending the half on a 14-6
run. Husson inched within two points after scoring the first five
points of the second half but MMA maintained a slim lead thanks in
part to consecutive three pointers. Both teams battled back and
forth until the Eagles jumped out to a six-point advantage with
just 3:12 left in the game. The Lady Mariners closed the lead to
three points on two separate occasions but couldn't get over the
hump as the Eagles made their foul shots down the stretch to win by
the count of 66-60.
Senior
Shelby Bradford (Lee, ME) led the Eagle's attack with 24 points and
13 rebounds. Sophomore Brianna Hanscom (Mattawamkeag, ME) played an
outstanding second half scoring 14 of her 16 points while grabbing
nine rebounds. Bethany Seavey (Skowhegan, ME) was the only other
Husson player in double figures with 11 points.
Sophomore
guard Maggie
Smith (Bath, ME) led the Mariners with 16 points while Katie Pushard
(Winthrop, ME) added nine points and a team high five assists. Sam
Goda (Eliot, ME) grabbed a team high 12 rebounds for the Lady
Mariners.
The
Eagles stay undefeated in NAC play improving to 10-0 while the Lady
Mariners drop to 7-3 in NAC play.
