Castine, Maine - The Lady Mariner Volleyball team hosted the first two games of the Mariner Classic Volleyball Tournament on Saturday night. In the first match, Massachusetts Maritime beat SUNY Maritime 3-0, while the Lady Mariners won the nightcap 3-0 over the Privateers from SUNY Maritime.

The Lady Mariners beat the Privateers by the score of 3-0 (25-6, 25-8, and 25-9). Sophomore setter Jenn Dixon (Woodstock, MD) led the MMA attack collecting 28 assists in the three game match. Junior outside hitter Chelsea Ward (Homer, AK) and freshman middle hitter Melissa Lail (Elizabeth, CO) each collected five kills while Dixon had a game high eight aces. The Mariners improved to 3-5 on the season.

Natalie Warren (Peachtree, GA) and Jerrica Romero (Bronx, NY) led the SUNY attack with a kill apiece. SUNY Maritime falls to 0-8 on the season.

In the opening match of the tournament, the Massachusetts Maritime Academy Buccaneers defeated the SUNY Maritime Privateers 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, and 25-19). Victoria Presutti (Marshfield, MA), Alex Burgess-Chrost (Leominster, MA), and Suzanne Marino (Kings Park, NY) led the Buccaneers with eight kills apiece. Joanne Robery (Plainville, MA) led the team with eight assists.

The win was the Buccaneers first since October 17^th, 2006 when they defeated Lesley University.

Jerrica Romero led the Privateers with five kills while Krystal Miranda (Putnam Valley, NY) led the team with six assists.
