Cote lifts Maine Maritime over Lyndon

Box Score

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. - Elizabeth Cote's goal with 46 seconds remaining lifted the Maine Maritime Academy women's soccer team to a 2-1 North Atlantic Conference victory over Lyndon.

Katie Hutchinson gave the Mariners a 1-0 lead at the 2:06 mark of the first half off an assist from Callie Thompson. That tally stood for more than 80 minutes before Hornet striker Samantha Bergeron tied the score at 1-1 by drilling home the rebound of a Jesi Amsden shot with 2:48 remaining.

In the final seconds of the contest, Maine Maritime was awarded a corner kick with less than one minute left to play. Jessica Stahl teed up the ball and sent it into the penalty area about two meters out from goal. Cote ran onto the kick a punched a shot past Lyndon keeper Samantha Smith for the game-winning goal.

Lacey Jackson made three saves for the Mariners to get the win while Smith stopped a total of 14 shots. Maine Maritime held a lopsided 23-7 advantage in shots in the game.
