BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Five players registered goals as the
University of New England cruised past Maine Maritime Academy, 8-0,
in non-conference women's soccer action Saturday afternoon from
Barbara J. Hazard Field.
Sophomore Lauren Blaisdell (Scarborough, Maine), first-year Alex
Wells (Franconia, N.H.), and junior Sarah Richardson (Rochester,
N.H.) each tallied a pair of scores to pace the Nor'easters (1-0),
who defeated the Mariners for the third consecutive meeting between
the teams.
First-years Ellie Arsenault (Saco, Maine) and Morgan Humphreys
(Rocky Hill, Conn.) accounted for the other goals. Classmate Amanda
Vaudreuil (Windham, N.H.) set up two the goals, and junior Alice
Read had one assist.
Arsenault got things started with an unassisted goal in the 31st
minute, and by halftime the lead was 3-0.
UNE found the back of the net five times after intermission, and
finished the contest with a 38-5 advantage in shots.
Junior goalkeeper Jess Woodworth (Concord, N.H.) made four saves
for the Nor'easters in 65+ minutes before giving way to first-year
Sam Guyette (Newport, Vt.), who did not face a shot.
Senior Lacey
Jackson (York, Pa.) posted 10 saves for the Maine Maritime
(0-1), which hosts North Atlantic Conference foe UMaine Farmington
on Sunday.
UNE returns to action Wednesday, when the University of Southern
Maine visits at 7 p.m. for a non-conference match.
