Castine, ME - The Maine Maritime Academy Men's Basketball team defeated the University of Maine at Augusta 78-65 in a non-conference match-up on Tuesday night at Margaret Smith Gymnasium.
The Mariners jumped out to a 41-22 half time lead behind nine first half points from Ben Russell (Farmington, ME) and Andy Ball (Hermon, ME). The Mariners shot 39% in the opening half and held the Moose to 16.7% shooting. The Moose made a run in the second half, getting to within three points, but MMA went on a late 14-2 run which included a Paul Campbell (Camden, ME) three to get the run started that put the game away and secured the victory.
The win improves MMA's record to 5-5 while the Moose drop to 3-18 on the season.
Andy Ball led the Mariners with 19 points including four three's while Paul Campbell chipped in with 16 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Dom Drake (Brewer, ME) led all players with 9 assists while Shawn Dostie (Bowdoinham, ME) led the Mariners with 10 rebounds.
Orlando Holmes led UMaine Augusta with 20 points while Wili Walter scored 14 points and grabbed a game high 14 rebounds. David Prior was the only other player in double figures for the Moose with 11 points.
