Box Score Castine, ME - The Maine Maritime Men's Basketball team held on to a nine point half time lead and defeated the visiting Badgers from Johnson State College 53-51 in a North Atlantic Conference match-up on Friday night.
The Mariners won the defensive battle in which both teams combined for just 36 first half points with MMA holding a 22-12 intermission lead. The Mariners stretched their lead to 12 points with under 5 five minutes left in the game, but Johnson battled back to get within two points with under a minute to play. The Mariners converted their last four free throws, two by Paul Campbell (Camden, ME) and two by Dom Drake (Brewer, ME) to secure the win.
Both teams struggled from the floor with Johnson shooting 35.8% and MMA shooting just 34.5%. MMA out rebounded the Badgers 40-38.
Shawn Dostie (Bowdoinham, ME) led the Mariners with 13 points while Paul Campbell and Sam Bell (Calais, ME) had 11 and 12 points respectively. Dom Drake played well in the win scoring eight points, grabbing eight rebounds, and dishing out a game high six assists.
Cody Camisa (Colchester, VT) led all scorers with 18 points while Rob Key (New Britain, CT) chipped in with 11 points and a game high nine rebounds.
With the win, MMA improves to 6-5 on the year and 1-0 in the NAC while Johnson falls to 3-7 overall and 0-1 in the NAC.
