Box Score Castine, ME - The Maine Maritime Academy Lady Mariners ran past the Hornets from Lyndon State 81-52 in a North Atlantic Conference match-up Saturday afternoon at Margaret Chase Smith Gymnasium. MMA dished out 30 assists and scored 52 points in transition en route to the ir eight win of the season.
For the second night in a row, MMA jumped all over their opponent in the first half and took a 25 point lead (45-20) into the break after shooting 52% in the first 20 minutes. The Lady Mariners used tremendous defensive pressure throughout the course of the game, holding the Hornets to 30.2% shooting while forcing 23 turnovers. MMA shot 46.5% from the floor and out rebounded Lyndon 49-34.
Samantha Goda (Eliot, ME) led the offensive attack for MMA, scoring 15 points on 7-for-11 shooting. Goda also dis hed out three assists, collected three steals, and gathered six rebounds in the win. Maggie Smith (Bath, ME) was outstanding again for MMA, scoring 13 points while collecting five rebounds and five assists. Jess Stahl (Bowdoin, ME) and Brittany Hunt (Hickory, NC) each had 13 points for the Lady Mariners while Katie Pushard (Winthrop, ME), Casey McCloskey (Howland, ME), and Leah Jackson (Dedham, ME) all had a game high six assists.
Lyndon College was led Naomi White (Danville, VT) who scored 11 points to go along with four rebounds. Donna Lawson (Irasburg, VT) was the only other Hornet in double figures with 10 points.
With the win, MMA improves to 8-5 overall and 2-0 in conference play while Lyndon falls to 4-7 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
