January 29, 2011, Waterville, Maine -- Maine Maritime Academy (11-6, 5-1 NAC) jumped out to a quick lead over the Thomas College Terriers (5-10. 3-4 NAC) in the first half and continued to outplay the host team as they defeated them 71-55.

The Lady Mariners came right out the gate with a Brittany Hunt (Hickory, NC) three pointer to take a 3-0 lead, from there on the Lady Mariners never gave up the lead. Thomas was able to tie the game twice in the first half of off a Mallorie Blakney (Fairfield, Maine) free throw and a Kate Thibodeau (Woolrich, Maine) lay- up, but when the horn sounded for halftime it was the Lady Mariners over the Terriers 38-29.

In the second half it was all about the Maine Maritime defense as they held the Terriers to 26 points and out rebounded the host team 25-to-13.

Karin Bird (Lee, Maine) led Thomas with 19 points shooting 11-for-12 from the free throw line. Kellie Martel (Cambridge, Maine) was second with 13 points and four assists, while Alexis Evans (Skowhegan, Maine) led the team in rebounding with seven while scoring nine points.

Maine Maritime's Samantha Goda (Eliot, ME) recorded a double–double with a team high 22 points and 13 rebounds.  Andi Flannery (East Machias, ME) had 10 points and nine rebounds.

Maine Maritime improves to 11-6 overall and 5-1 in conference. MMA will be back in action on Monday when they travel to UMaine Farmington for a 5:30 tip-off.
