Box Score 2 BIDDEFORD, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy split a pair of non-conference volleyball matches at the University of New England on Saturday. The Mariners dealt a 3-0 loss to the University of Southern Maine before being swept 3-0 by the University of New England.
The Mariners had four players with six or more kills in recording their 15th sweep of the season. Set scores were 25-9, 25-7, 25-13.
Sophomore Melissa Lail (Elizabeth, Colo.) had a match-high seven kills to lead the way for the Mariners (17-4). Senior Heather Moore (Macedon, N.Y.), sophomore Chantal Adderley (Nassau, Bahamas) and first-year Sydney Robertson (Barnstead, N.H.) recorded six apiece. Dixon served up eight aces, while senior KC Anderson (Franklin, Maine) added 5 to go with a match-best eight digs.
As a team, Maine Maritime racked up 27 aces and hit .352 on its attack.
Hannah Patterson and sophomore Madalyn Terry, who were each credited with three kills, paced the 0-17 Huskies.
Leading by two sets but down 15-11 and 21-19 in the third, the University of New England pulled out a 25-23 win in the frame to close out a 3-0 victory against the Mariners. Sets one and two went to UNE by scores of 25-17 and 25-15.
Victorious in nine of their last 11 matches, the Nor'easters evened their overall mark on the season at 11-11. Maine Maritime, was shut out for the third time in its four losses this season.
Abby Davis posted a double-double to help guide Big Blue, registering 11 kills and 11 digs. Sophomore Angie Brunette also had 11 kills, as well as a team-best .350 attack percentage. First-year Leah Janelle put up nine kills to go with five service aces in support.
Sophomores Maria Kuehl and Ashley Thibodeau combined for 33 assists (19 and 14) to help set up the offense, and 25 digs (15-10) on the defensive side of things.
For Maine Maritime, Lail tallied a team-high seven kills, and was one of two players to record 12 digs, along with Anderson. Adderley had a hand in match-best four block assists.
The Mariners return to action at Husson on Wednesday night for a North Atlantic Conference match at rival Husson University.
