Terriers Run Away in Second Half

Box Score

CASTINE, Maine – Thomas College exploded for four goals in the second half to take a 5-1 victory over Maine Maritime Academy in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women's soccer on Wednesday. Arian Kumlangngam (Winslow, Maine) provided the game-winner in the 58th minute.

Kumlangngam booted home a Kristi Hilton (Monmouth, Maine) cross from the left at 57:29 to break a 1-1 tie built on either side of the half. The Terriers (3-12, 3-5 NAC) struck in the waning seconds of the first half off of a throw-in on the right sideline well inside of Mariners' (0-13, 0-8 NAC) territory. Rather than towards the box, Thomas chose to throw back to it defender Jenn Day (Gardiner, Maine) who went to the goal from 50 yards out. Taylor O'Malley (Middletown, R.I.) punched the high-arching shot down to the turf where it was redirected into the gaping net by Elizabeth Goodall (Oakfield, Maine) who had charged into the box from the left.

Maine Maritime responded quickly after the half. Emily Brogden (Union, Maine) redirected a corner kick that was initially stopped by Terriers' keeper Kate Thibodeau (Woolwich, Maine), but she was unable to hang on. Natasha Morris (Fairfield, Maine) collected the carom 2:55 into the second half for her first goal of the season.

The deadlock stood for just under 10 minutes before Kumlangngam struck, opening the floodgates for the Terriers. Nine minutes later, Jillian Lambert (Dayton, Maine) collected a Victoria Devonshire (Brockton, Mass.) pass deep in the box and put it under a sprawling O'Malley to make it 3-1. The Terriers continued scoring, rounding out the night with a Terissa Ridge (Rumford, Maine) goal with 20 ticks left in the game.

The Mariners close out their NAC slate on Saturday at New England College. The Terriers close out their 2011 campaign on Saturday with a NAC match against Lyndon State.
