Box Score CASTINE, Maine – Elena Estrada (Dover, Del.) scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner, to lead Maine-Presque Isle to a 3-1 win at Maine Maritime Academy on Sunday. Chelsea Beauchemin (Adams, Mass.) assisted two of the Owls (10-4) goals, including the game winner.
Estrada's first came 3:47 into the second half. That's when she redirected Beauchemin's corner kick into the Mariners (0-15) net to make a 2-0 game. It was exactly seven minutes later that Estrada struck again. The sophomore was on one knee when she finished a scramble on the goalmouth to make it 30.
Estrada's game winner was the Owls second goal scored on a corner kick. Beauchemin served a lob into the box in the 11th minute. Desiree Smith (Thomaston, Maine) collected the ball and put it past a sprawling Taylor O'Malley (Middletown, R.I.). O'Malley made 15 stops on the afternoon.
The Mariners got on the board in the final 10 minutes. Playing in her last career game, senior defender Amy Lane (Carroll Plantation, Maine) tallied her first career goal. Natasha Morris (Fairfield, Maine) expertly headed a long throw-in by Kari Jones (Nobleboro, Maine) across the box and onto the foot of Lane. Lane went inside the right post from 12-yards out for the tally.
The loss wraps the Mariners season at 0-15. UMPI returns to action next Sunday at Maine-Machias.
