Castine, ME - The Lady Mariners from Maine Maritime Academy defeated the Terriers from Thomas College 77-61 in a North Atlantic Conference match-up Tuesday night at Margaret Chase Smith Gymnasium.
With the win MMA improves to 17-9 on the season and earns the right to play Castleton State College in the semi-finals on Friday night. The game will be played at Husson University and is scheduled for a 8pm tip-off. The loss ends the Terriers season with an 8-15 overall record.
Maine Maritime held a 37-23 halftime advantage after shooting 48% from the floor and holding Thomas to 22.2% shooting. Thomas managed to cut the lead to nine points (45-36) with 13:49 remaining in the game but never got closer as MMA went on a decisive 20-7 run to put the game away and secure the win.
Maggie Smith (Bath, ME) led the Lady Mariners with 19 points on 8-for-12 shooting while Jessica Stahl (Bowdoin, ME) collected a season high 17 points. Samantha Goda (Eliot, ME) collected another double-double scoring 11 points while grabbing 13 rebounds. Leah Jackson collected a game high 16 rebounds while Casey McCloskey (Howland, ME) dished out seven of MMA's 28 assists.
Karin Bird (Lee, ME) led all scorers with 22 points while Alexis Evans (Embden, ME) had a team high eight rebounds. Kellie Martel (Cambridge, ME) and Mallorie Blakney (Fairfield, ME) scored 15 and 10 points respectively for the Terriers.
