MMA Runs Past Badgers 79-40

JOHNSON, Vt. (February 5, 2011) – Maine Maritime Academy raced to a 37-12 halftime lead and never looked back as the Mariners moved to 13-7 overall, 6-2 North Atlantic Conference with a 79-40 women's basketball win over host Johnson State College.  The Badgers have lost 13 straight games and are now 4-16 overall, 0-9 NAC.

 

The Mariner defense was active throughout forcing 29 Johnson State turnovers and helping fuel a transition game that was effective all night.  MMA hauled down 17 offensive rebounds in addition to the forced turnovers to help them to a 69-46 field goal attempt advantage on the day.

 

MMA put 12 players in the scoring column and were paced by Samantha Goda (Eliot, Maine) who scored 16 points and grabbed eight boards while Leah Jackson (Dedham, Maine) recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.  Maggie Smith (Bath, Maine) was the third Mariner in double-figures with 12 points.
Johnson saw sophomore Jen Ferrari (Westfield, Mass./Westfield) score 13 points and collect three steals while junior Andrea Deuell (Milton, Vt./Milton) netted a dozen, and freshman Amber McCullock (Morrisville, Vt./Peoples) had a nice outing with seven points and nine rebounds.
